Sarah Rowlands is a photographic artist based in Ōtautahi/Christchurch, Aotearoa/New Zealand.
She gained her Diploma in Visual Communication in 1997 and has worked commercially as an architectural photographer for more than 15 years.
In 2024 she gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Arts, Photography, (Distinction) from University of Canterbury.
Commercially her work has been published in numerous magazines and books internationally.
Through traditional and alternative photographic methods her fine art practise interrogates the post colonial natural environment and her identity within it.
Themes of time, ecological crisis, and personal memory are explored through revising sites seasonally and repeated observation and artistic response.
Her work has been exhibited locally as her practise grows and evolves, and is held in private collections.
Currently she is working with vintage cameras and camera-less methods to research local landscapes and their histories, exploring the connections with human and non human natural environments.
